Snax
New York performer and producer Snax, AKA Paul Bonomo, first hit the music headlines as electro outfit Captain Comatose with his then partner Khan. Now based in Berlin, Snax has released solo records on esteemed labels such as Mental Groove, TNT, Playhouse and Get Physical and has toured the world with Jamie Lidell and the Scissor Sisters. He is soon to release his spanking new 'Trouble' EP, with mixes by Peaches, Gus Gus and The Knife, on defDrive Records and has a string of UK performances about to be announced. Spektrum vs George Demure
Joining forces for this unique download only release are great UK outfit Spektrum and the king of electro-croon, George Demure. The two have gone head to head and created a new way of collaborating. George took on and made his own Spektrum's hip-wiggling dance bomb 'Don't Be Shy' which was released as a remix on Nonstop last year, having uniquely used his vocals as a remix tool. Inspired by George's treatment, Spektrum have returned George's mix by taking on his track, 'Boys Talk', a song originally written for Kylie Minogue. ‘Boys Talk’ is a warm, addictive slice of electronic pop, and George’s and foxy Spektrum lead singer Lola Olafisoye's vocals are more seductive than Tom Jones and Grace Jones at an Anne Summer’s party.
33hz
New York electro funksters 33hz are heading head first into the hot list of 2006. Their addictive blend of smooth 80s grooves and electro disco beats - just think Hall & Oates meets Stardust - will woo fans from across the commercial UK media through to the more discerning muso underground, with forthcoming filthed-up remixes by Christopher Just, Zoo Brazil, Magick Johnson and Rob Mello, to send dance floors into flames. 'Crazy All The Time' and 'Hot Flashes' are coming your way soon. The biggest sound of this year.www.33hz.com
The Jeans Team
Berlin outfit The Jeans Team bring us the cool electronic funk of the addictive 'Nonstop Nonstop Nonstop'. Formed in 1995, The Jeans Team have won over admirers such as Peaches, Stereo Total, Doc Schoko and Kissogram, who have all covered their songs live on stage. The late John Peel was also a fan, having invited them over to the UK alongside Tarwater for a session on BBC2. Undoubtedly one of the most exciting bands to come out of Germany in the last five years. Ding Dong!www.jeansteam.de
Kissogram
Kissogram are Berlin duo Jonas Poppe and Sebastian Dassé, self-proclaimed dandies of Dark Disco. The pair founded Kissogram when all they had to their name was a knackered synthesizer and a rusty old eight track tape recorder. They launched themselves into the small illegal club circuit of the former ‘Berlin Mitte’ scene, which soon resulted in performing regularly with fellow German innovators the Jeans Team, Mina, Stereo Total and Peaches. 'My Friend Is A Seahorse' showcases Jonas Poppe's remarkable vocals. According to the great Chilly Gonzales, who produced this record, "Jonas is the new Bob Dylan".www.kissogram.de
My Robot Friend
MRF barely needs an introduction. A New York robot with flashing lights and flame throwing metal penis that has wowed fans across the world with his eccentric live shows and humour drenched techno funk. Big fans The Pet Shop Boys covered MRF track 'We Are The Pet Shop Boys' - the bonus track on their Top 10 single, 'Miracles'. Joy Division cover 'Isolation' and 'America Is Automatic' is the latest new material from MRF, exclusively written for defDrive Records.www.myrobotfriend.com
The Puppetmastaz
Dr Dre meets The Muppets with the world's first ever toy group. Formed in 1996 in the Berlin underground after a case of whisky and some old school hip hop tapes were discovered strewn across the city's most infamous toy stores, the Puppetmastaz have since performed all over the world, supporting the likes of The Goldie Lookin' Chain and Busta Rhymes, and rocked UK festivals the Big Chill and Bestival. 'Do The Swamp'/’Midi Mighty Moe' is the Puppetmastaz debut UK release, and have already won over fans such as Tim Love Lee, Ewan Pearson, James Priestly and Neil Tennant.www.puppetmastaz.com
